On entry students join one of seven tutorial groups in the charge of a tutor, who sees them every day. The students and tutors within each year group is line managed by a Head of Year. The tutor group provides a stable base for monitoring achievements and for giving daily contact to provide continuity and stability. Attendance, punctuality and academic monitoring are also essential parts of the pastoral teams’ work. The school is arranged for educational and administrative purposes into three sections:

6th Form:

12-13

(ages 16+)
Upper School:

All students, except sixth formers, must wear school uniform, which is available from the school outfitters 'Whitehall Clothiers'. Prices are available to all new entrants and their parents. The uniform consists of a blazer with school badge, shirt, tie, trousers/skirt. The main school colour is black with a maroon jumper and a maroon and gold tie. Brown or black shoes must be worn, trainers are not allowed except for P.E. The wearing of jewellery, hats and Walkmans is forbidden.

Assemblies are held during the week according to a regular pattern of Senior, Lower, Year and Whole School assemblies. They are considered important to the moral development and corporate spirit of the school.

Home school links are seen as a priority. We encourage close contact with parents, recognising and fostering the important relationship between home and school. The ‘Diary’ carried by every student, ensures that there is a daily contact between home and school regarding homework, school events, staff and parental concerns. There are formal contacts with parents at various times of the year. Parents are always seen if there is an issue, which requires immediate attention and individual consultation by appointment is welcomed.

Rewarding good work is seen as a positive way of promoting achievement. We do this by awarding certificates, commendations, cups and prizes and displaying students work. The school holds an annual ‘Celebration of Achievement’ evening in September.

There are close links with the Career’s Service, colleges, universities and Community Centres. There is a full programme of support to ensure students progress onto employment, university or additional studies. A list of Supplementary Schools are kept in the Library.
